The national tourism sector confirms its record performance during the first nine months of 2026. Driven by sharply rising revenues, the destination is strengthening its economic added value.
The national tourism sector continues to reach historical milestones and consolidate its position as an engine of the Kingdom’s economic growth. According to the latest indicators published by the Ministry of Tourism, Morocco welcomed 15.7 million visitors during the first nine months of 2026, recording a steady increase of 5% compared to the same period last year. Financial returns registered an even more vigorous momentum, reaching 97.92 billion dirhams by the end of August according to Exchange Office data, representing a remarkable 9.7% rise. This upward trajectory confirms the country’s international appeal, supported by strengthened air connectivity and the diversification of cultural and seaside offerings.
Financial revenues growing faster than visitor flows
Statistical analysis shows that tourism revenues are growing at a rate nearly twice as fast as visitor arrivals on national territory. This highly favourable gap reflects a significant rise in average spend per tourist, thereby generating greater added value for local economic players, hospitality, and catering. This increase in revenue per visitor validates the destination’s upmarket strategy and demonstrates the growing appeal of Moroccan tourism services among high-purchasing-power international clients.
The challenge of regional distribution of economic benefits
While data covering the first three quarters of the year confirms the sector’s excellent health, the annual performance will depend on reception capacities and fourth-quarter flows. The ambition of sector authorities now consists of sustaining this momentum by spreading its economic benefits across all regions of the Kingdom. To convert these record flows into sustainable jobs and investment opportunities, developing new regional destinations beyond the major traditional hubs stands as a strategic priority to rebalance territorial development.
