Following a brilliant doctorate, Mohamed Arnouss prepares to join New York University to model the economic management of epidemics.
The development of human capital and the export of scientific expertise illustrate the excellence of academic training provided within national institutions. Graduating valedictorian in 2019 from a leading engineering school in the Kingdom, Mohamed Arnouss chose to direct his career path toward fundamental and applied research rather than the private sector. His ambition to analyze major global challenges through mathematical modeling led him to pursue higher education in France, where he earned a master’s degree in Nancy before joining the Computer Science Laboratory of Avignon. On 17 July 2026, the Moroccan engineer successfully defended his PhD prepared under joint supervision with Hassan II University of Casablanca, receiving congratulations from an international jury for his work on resource optimization during health crises.
Strategic research between modeling and economic resilience
The research conducted by the young scholar focuses on applying game theory and applied mathematics to the economics of epidemics. The goal of his dissertation is to design algorithms and allocation strategies capable of slowing the spread of viral diseases while adhering to state budgetary and hospital constraints. This innovative scientific approach captivated the prestigious Fulbright scholarship selection committee, paving the way for his official integration into the complex systems laboratory at New York University starting in January 2027. Under the supervision of Professor Quanyan Zhu, the researcher will spend a full year working on mitigating epidemic peaks under economic constraints, providing a direct contribution to global health system resilience.
Impact on national research and skill transfer
The international success of high-potential profiles confirms the relevance of university partnerships between the Kingdom and major global research hubs. These exceptional career tracks enhance the reputation of national scientific programs and build lasting bridges for the transfer of expertise and technological innovation to the local academic ecosystem. Training doctors specialized in complex data analysis and decision-making engineering addresses the growing needs of companies and public institutions regarding risk management. By securing strategic positions in global research centers, educated Moroccan youth represent a major vector of influence that supports the country’s appeal and inspires the future generation of engineers and innovators.
